Tata Nexon vs Tata Tigor
If you’re thinking of getting a new car, the first thing to consider should be which type of vehicle you want. Do you want something electric or do you want to stick with a gas-powered vehicle? There are plenty of great choices out there, but the two best are the Tata Tigor and the Tata Nexon. Read on to learn more about these two amazing choices and find out which one might be better for you!
Overview
The Tata Nexon and Tata Tigor were two of India’s top-selling cars in 2018. Both have been marketed as green vehicles with hybrid technology and fuel economy scores above 20kmpl. Both are subcompact sedan that also happen to be electric options for drivers looking for a low cost, eco-friendly vehicle. The similarities between these two electric cars do not end there; both are a great option for Indian drivers looking to purchase their first new car or upgrade from their old one. But which one is best?
Interior (Features and Comfort)
Both cars come with an advanced touchscreen infotainment system, which is equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Tata has included USB connectivity in both cars, however only Tata Nexon features Bluetooth connectivity as well. Speaking of comfort, both cars have a very similar amount of space for passengers as well as boot capacity. However, while rear seats in Tata Tigor Ev can be folded to increase boot space whereas those in Tata Nexon cannot. This results in Tata Nexon having a slightly higher cargo capacity than that of its competition. As far as safety features are concerned, both cars come with a host of standard safety features including dual front airbags, ABS and EBD as well as seatbelt warning sensors and hill hold assist feature.
Safety Features
The Tata Nexon has been rated as a safest car by Global NCAP which is an agency for testing vehicle safety. It has got a 5 star rating for its adult occupant protection, 3 stars for child occupant protection and 4 stars for pedestrian protection. The Tata Tiago Electric is going to be soon tested by Global NCAP. Also, it offers an advanced safety features such as integrated brake lights, wheel speed sensors and 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS making it one of the safest hatchbacks available in India at present. Another major feature of Tata Tiago EV is that it comes with reverse parking sensors on both sides which will warn you while reversing or if any obstacles are coming your way when backing up your car in parking spots.
Drivetrain (Performance and Range)
In terms of drivetrain, Nexon and Tigor EV share similar powertrains. Both feature a single electric motor which produces 114PS of max power and 220Nm of peak torque mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The difference is in terms of battery capacity. Tata has opted for a lower 48V battery setup that provides 7-9 kWh of energy (compared to 10-12 kWh). This allows for 100 km range on full charge (compared to 160 km) but also results in quicker charging times (4 hours compared to 6 hours). So it’s up to you whether you want better range or faster charging time, but keep in mind that both cars feature fast charging capability that allows them charge up to 80% capacity in 40 minutes!
Conclusion
For almost all of us, a car is a necessity and not a luxury. Thus we look for cost-efficient and long-lasting options. For some green car owners, Tata’s e-Verito is an ideal vehicle but it lacks space compared to other sedans in its category. On the other hand, Tata’s new entry in e-vehicle segment -the Tata Tigor EV or Electric Vehicle has better comfort and ample interior space as well as space for 5 adults and 3 child seats without compromising on safety features including airbags, ABS etc. The mileage for Tigor EV comes out to be about 60km/charge which is more than what eVerito could offer.
