Hyundai KONA Electric vs Tata Tigor EV– Which is the Better Electric Car?
How do the Hyundai KONA Electric and Tata Tigor EV compare to each other? Is one better than the other? Which one would you choose? Let’s take a look at some of their specs and see how they stack up to each other.
The Tata Tigor’s cabin can comfortably seat four adults, while Hyundai’s sedan can hold five. However, when it comes to boot space, it is Hyundai which wins with a higher capacity of 320 litres compared to 180 litres in Tata’s car. Inside Dimensions: The Tata Tigor’s cabin can comfortably seat four adults, while Hyundai’s sedan can hold five.
4,440mm (L) x 1,790mm (W) x 1,555mm (H) vs 4,125mm (L) x 1,555mm (W) x 1,625 mm(H) respectively. Hyundai Kona Electric which is a compact SUV has generous amount of space. It has a large cabin and trunk space with a humongous boot at 353 litres which can be extended to 1224 litres with rear seats folded down.
The Hyundai Kona EV’s headlamps feature LED daytime running lights as well as LED Daytime Running Lights. The car also has headlamps with a halogen bulb.
It’s not easy to say which of these electric cars looks better. Both manage to look attractive, with Tigor sporting an aggressive front fascia and large wheels, while Hyundai keeps things simple with a more conservative approach. Overall though, Hyundai seems to have edged out Tata with its design. The car does look a bit too much like Nissan Leaf for our liking though.
Cabin Space and Comfort
Hyundai’s first electric vehicle (EV) – Hyundai Kona EV – has a distinct advantage over Tata’s EV offering in terms of cabin space and comfort. While both vehicles offer two seats, Hyundai’s car has more headroom for taller passengers, whereas Tata’s cabins are comparatively cramped. Also, unlike its competitor, Hyundai hasn’t compromised on storage space – both cars offer enough space to store grocery bags in their boot.
Features and Standard Equipment
The Hyundai Kona Electric comes standard with features such as a 7.0 touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-speaker audio system, keyless entry, automatic emergency braking (AEB), automatic headlights and taillights, a leather steering wheel and other driver assistance features. All these premium features are not available in Tata Tigor EV in standard trim.
The Hyundai KONA Electric features a powertrain that consists of an electric motor with a maximum output of 64 kW and 320 Nm, coupled to a single-speed reduction gear transmission. In order to make it more appropriate for India, Tata has introduced new electrified drivelines in its Tigor EV models. While one variant features an electric motor producing 68 hp and 135 Nm of torque, other variants feature an electric motor producing 66 hp and 220 Nm or 140 hp and 260 Nm of torque.
Range, Charge Time and Other Factors
The Hyundai Kona Electric has a range of 414 kilometers on a single charge, and takes about 10 hours to charge fully. On the other hand, Tata Tigor EV has a range of up to 130 kms on a single charge, and needs six hours to get fully charged. Tata Tigor also doesn’t have quick charging facility. Both cars can be used in AC mode without needing to recharge it.
Hyundai KONA Electric – Charging Port
The charge port has LEDs which show’s of your car charging status and level of charge.
